MAPA Regional Family Conferences

About the program

MAPA Regional Family Conferences provide families with opportunities to learn about UCSC while supporting their students’ academic journeys. These regional events are funded through our HSI MAPA grant and hosted by UCSC’s Chicano Latino Resource Center (El Centro). Our conferences are designed to engage families in fun, culturally-relevant activities that focus on the experience of transitioning to UC Santa Cruz for both students and their families.

Goals

Our conferences are designed to create a greater sense of belonging to the UCSC community and help students and their families better understand:

  • the benefits of four-year and graduate degrees

  • the new roles of students’ family members in a university setting

  • financial aid available

  • career pathway options

Who can attend?

We invite families of undergraduates who are:

  • currently an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) student

  • A first-generation college student

  • from a traditionally underserved ethnic group
