Anny Mogollón
Graduate Pathways Coordinator
Anny Mogollón is a first-generation Phd candidate in the Literature department with emphases in both CRES and Feminist Studies. Anny’s primary research is on the cultural archive of domestic worker representation in the United States and in Latin America but also includes an interest in digital activism and public humanities, U.S. ethnic literatures and trauma studies. Anny transferred from Orange Coast College to UCLA where she completed her undergraduate education. Anny worked as a K-12 educator in California and as an English language teacher in Japan. Last year, Anny was the GSR for the College Scholars Program and supervisor for the Program’s Peer Mentors. This summer, she joined Cultivamos Excelencia as the Graduate Pathways Coordinator.

Daniel Arias
Research Scholars Mentor
Born and raised in San Jose, CA, Daniel Arias is the son of Mexican immigrants. He is a third-year Ph.D. student in the department of literature. His research focuses on contemporary Latinx poetry and the publishing dynamics that influence the production of this literature. He is constantly searching for great hiking and food spots in the Bay Area.

Hello all I am Ulises Jaime-Yepez a first gen Mexican-American PhD student in the Applied Mathematics department. I love futbol,gym, cooking, riding my motorcycle, and of course math. Feel free to stop by and chat!

Brian Rivera
Research Scholars Mentor
Brian transferred from Los Angeles City College to CSU Northridge (CSUN) where he earned a B.A. in English Subject Matter with a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language and an M.A. in English. He then obtained a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate from UCLA. He has been a tutor at Los Angeles City College, Glendale Community College, and CSUN, where he also participated in CSUN’s Mentor Collective, a program where he mentored transfer students in navigating academia. Brian has taught English and ESL courses at CSU Northridge. He is currently a second year PhD student in the Literature department, where he focuses on 20th and 21st century Latin American literature, Ecocriticism, and Environmental Humanities and will teach for the John R. Lewis College and Writing Program during the 23-24 academic year.

Yvonne Vasquez

Hello everyone! My name is Yvonne Vasquez (she/her), and I am a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology program at UCSC. I study pediatric cancer genomics with the goal of improving health/survival outcomes of young patients with cancer. I am passionate about STEM outreach and promoting diversity in science. I am super excited to join the Cultivamos Excelencia team and can’t wait to meet you all.
